So finally...The Bachchan B-ash is over and I hope that the media will atleast now leave the couple alone. The wedding of Bollywood's most eligible bachelor with the world's most beautiful woman(that's not my expression, I'm just replicating what many of the leading dailies mentioned) had the whole nation talking all about it. From page 3 parties to people from villages from all over India ; everyone was going ga-ga about it. Who's been invited and who's been not was front page news in almost all the dailies. And so, finally on April 20th at exactly 6:13 P.M. the wedding took place. Across almost all news channels the same video clips were repeated again and again until you finally just got sick of it. Apart from the hype and hoopla surrounding this wedding, starlets like some Jhanvi Kapoor claiming to be married to Bachchan Jr and and a Abhishek look-alike all got their 15 minuted of fame. People from all over India gathered outside Prateeksha, the Bachchan residence where the wedding was taking place just to catch a glimpse of their favourite stars. When Bachchan Jr did a little jig on one of his songs to please the crowd, the fans were thrilled and thought that their journey was worth it. I sometimes find that these extreme reaction by fans are taking things a bit too far. My word of advice to the media now that the wedding is over--- JUST LEAVE THEM ALONE.

The Big Fat Bollywood Wedding

You must realise Ayushmaan that this is the age of information. People are busy imbibing all they can get their hands on. Media plays an important part in disbursing information, be it the print media or the electronic media. If any contemporary happening takes place it ( the Media ) transmits it to the public. In short they are just fulfiling a need whetting the appetites of the viewer/reader They also have to cover their costs and also earn profits for their owners/shareholders, and they do this primarily by advertisements. Now who will give adverisements to a channel or newspaper that does not sell. The Abhi-Ash wedding has a curiosity value and it sells and hence the need to cover it by the media. sometimes norms of decency are crossed but then they ( the media ) has to introspect about what is good and what is bad. Sometimes ( most of the times in fact ) they cross the limits because commercial interests take precedence. I am sure that now after all the fanfare of the marriage over the couple will be left alone.Stars in India have tremendous power/influence over people and some of them worship them ( specially in the south of India). This is true not only of India but all over the world - remember the Arun - Liz wedding where it was rumoured that media rights of the wedding were sold to Hello magazine for $ 2 million.
